You are reminded that photocopying of print material and printing and downloading of online material is limited by Copyright restrictions.

Some databases might require specific usernames and passwords. Some do not give access to the full-text of articles.

Academic Search Complete A multi-disciplinary full-text database, with nearly 6,000 full-text periodicals, including more than 5,000 peer-reviewed journals. ACLS Humanities ebook Collection A fully searchable collection of over 1700 high-quality ebooks in the humanities which have been reviewed and recommended by scholars. The Project is a collaboration of 12 learned societies, 95 publishers and librarians at the University of Michigan's Scholarly Publishing Office.

AHDS collections (Arts and Humanities Data Service) A freely available resource of archive collections and digital resources developed by researchers, teachers and practitioners covering Archaeology, History, Literature, Languages, Linguistics, Performing Arts and Visual Arts.
AMADEUS A pan-European database containing the standardised annual accounts (for up to 10 years), consolidated and unconsolidated, financial ratios, activities and ownership on approximately 10 million companies throughout Europe. American Institute of Physics journals Available through Scitation; Highly cited, highly respected, and highly relevant, AIP journals are the cornerstone of many physics collections.
American national biography Biographies of over 17,400 people. Updated quarterly
American Physical Society journals Available through Scitation; The American Physical society publishes the leading international physics research journals. The Physical Review Online Archive provides access to articles in these journals all the way back to the founding of the Physical Review in 1893.
AMS books online Around 30 free e-books published by the American Mathematical Society on a range of mathematical topics, including analysis, differential equations, mathematical physics, logic and number theory. In PDF format - Adobe Acrobat required.
Annee philologique A searchable bibliographical database of classical philology (the branch of knowledge that deals with the historical, linguistic, interpretative, and critical aspects of literature or classical scholarship) with records from 1949-2005.
Annual bibliography of English language and literature (ABELL) Provides information on authors and their works, including references to articles, monographs, dissertations, websites and journal articles. Archives Hub The Archives Hub provides access to over 18,000 descriptions of unique and unpublished primary source material held in archives and manuscript collections in over 80 UK universities, colleges and research institutes. The Archives Hub forms part of the emerging National Archives Network and covers a broad range of subject areas.
ArchSearch A Freely available catalogue from the Council for British Archeaology which contains records of over 1 million archaeological sites and monuments. Archived data includes fieldwork projects and lab-based studies which can be downloaded and analysed off line.

Burney Collection newspapers archive, 17th and 18th century The newspapers and news pamphlets gathered by the Reverend Charles Burney (1757-1817) represent the largest single collection of 17th and 18th century English news media. The 700 or so bound volumes of newspapers and news pamphlets were published mostly in London, however there are also some English provincial, Irish and Scottish papers, and a few examples from the American colonies, Europe and India. Cambridge collections online A cross-searchable library of subject based collections. Cambridge Journals A collection of over 170 journals to which the OU subscribes
CAMIO (Catalog of Art Museum Images Online) CAMIO consists of over 50,000 works of art from all continents. Included are paintings, sculpture, photographs, decorative and utilitarian objects, installations, architecture, jewellery and textiles dating from 3000 BC to the 21st Century. Images can be used for education in a non-commercial manner. There is a link to rights information from each image.

Cecilia A database containing information on collections of music materials of all kinds held in libraries, archives, museums and other repositories in the UK and Ireland.
Census 1901 website The 1901 Census for England and Wales Online service. A searchable, comprehensive name index to over 32 million individuals. Also searchable by address, district and institution. Contains images of the original census pages. Searching the index is free but viewing transcribed data is chargeable by the Public Record Office. See "How can I pay" section for further details
Census Dissemination Unit The Unit supplies academic users with computer readable data from the UK Censuses of Population. Register with the Census Registration Service for continued access
Census Interaction Data Service CIDS is a data support unit providing access to and supporting interaction data sets produced from UK Censuses of Population. Census interaction data relate to flows of people between places. Data sets are currently available from the 1981 and 1991 Census
Census learning and teaching materials (CHHC) Links to materials which are being developed to support the use of census data in learning and teaching. All learning and teaching materials are freely available for use by UK HE and FE sites and are customisable.
Census Microdata Unit : samples of anonymised records Samples of anonymised records (SARs) are abstracts of individual census returns, very large datasets resembling survey data. Information that could lead to the identification of an individual or household is removed. SARs from the 2001 Census are available now. Register with the Census Registration Service for continued access.
Charles Darwin online This site contains every Darwin publication as well as many of his handwritten manuscripts - more than 50,000 searchable text pages and 40,000 images. Also a comprehensive Darwin bibliography and the largest manuscript catalogue ever assembled. More than 150 ancillary texts are also included, ranging from reference works to contemporary reviews, obituaries, descriptions of Darwin's Beagle specimens and important works for understanding Darwin's context. ClasePeriodica Index of Latin American journals in the sciences and humanities, offering access to over 300,000 bibliographic citations from documents published in 2,600 scholarly journals published in the Spanish, Portuguese, French and English languages.
Classical music library A fully searchable classical music database of distinguished classical recordings. It includes thousands of licensed recordings that users can listen to on the Internet. The audio selections are cross-referenced to a database of supplementary reference information. The Library contains music from medieval to contemporary, choral works to symphonies, operas, and the avant-garde. A wide range of new content from EMI is gradually being added, to make available 54,000 extra recordings from top artists and ensembles.

Community of Science : research experience and funding opportunities database Community of Science (COS) services allow researchers' profiles to be shared and updated information on funding opportunities to be accessed. Datamonitor : Life Science Analytics company profiles Searchable database of pdf. Datamonitor reports on selected companies from a range of industries and countries.
Datastream historical company accounts, The Datastream Historical Company Accounts, 1965-2005 dataset covers accounts for companies in existence between 1965 and 2005. Data are provided for both 'live' companies (still active) and 'dead' companies (those no longer trading).
Design abstracts retrospective: DAR Provides broad, international coverage on a wide range of subjects in the fields of design. DAR contains more than 55,000 abstracts and is updated quarterly, with 15,000 records added per year.
Digimap : Ordnance Survey data collection Digimap is a service that provides Ordnance Survey Map data. Data may be downloaded to use with appropriate application software such as GIS or CAD, or as maps generated by Digimap online. Maps of any location in Great Britain at a series of predefined scales may be viewed and printed, subject to Copyright. Please contact the Library Helpdesk for further information. A viewable record is compiled for each species with information on classification, synonyms, etymology, pronunciation, discovery, vital statistics, and images. Documents are separated into topic-based categories, which can be searched or browsed. They are divided into two main areas - Family History and Other Records.
